Neapolitan tradition

The origins of pizza come from Naples. In fact, when we talk about its rounded form and that it is prepared with tomato and mozzarella, there’s no doubt about its origin: Naples.

The birth of modern pizza was born was embraced with the arrival of the tomatoes brought to Italy by Spaniards from the Americas…. somebody there had the idea of putting it on pizza and so the modern pizza came about.

Later on, the marriage of tomato with mozzarella took place in Naples, from the hands of the chef Raffaele Expósito, who decided to prepare his new pizza in that original way for Queen Margaret of Savoy.

The queen commissioned 3 pizzas from the pizzaiolo: one of them with tomato, mozzarella and basil, inspired by the Italian flag. The queen liked it so much that the pizzaiolo baptised his creation with the name of the Queen Margaret.

Pizza then emigrated to America after the second world war, making New York the city where most pizzas are eaten in the world, with more than 30 million pizzas per month.
